Star India batter KL Rahul suffered an unfortunate injury while fielding in the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 1. The 30-year-old was running in order to save a boundary and in the process, hurt his right leg, which can rule him out for a significant amount of time.

However, even though neither LSG management nor BCCI has confirmed the same, it is believed that the stumper-batter will no more feature in IPL 2023 and there’s a very small chance for him to make it to the World Test Championship finale against Australia at The Oval from June 7. Nevertheless, the results of his scans will give a better picture of his injury and post that, BCCI will be taking a call.

As per reports, the Lucknow Super Giants skipper is currently in Mumbai for scans and post that, BCCI officials and NCA doctors will be taking a call on his future.

It is being reported that the Mangalore-born cricketer could be suffering from a hamstring or hip injury. Notably, ten months back, Rahul had gone hernia surgery in Germany and thus, all the factors will be taken into consideration before he makes his return. However, if he indeed gets ruled out of the WTC final, Ishan Kishan is likely to replace him in the Indian squad.

The 24-year-old wicketkeeper-batter was part of the national squad in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy but has been dropped from the squad as India bid to claim the World Test Championship 2021-23. Now, with very limited options available, Kishan is the favourite to travel to England and act as KS Bharat’s backup if Rahul fails to recover on time.

On the other hand, Jaydev Unadkat’s injury is also a matter of concern for the Indian management. The left-handed pacer hurt his shoulder during practice and is already ruled out of the 16th edition of the cash-rich league. Thus, there are some uncertainties if Unadkat can recover on time and travel with the squad for the WTC final.

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that the members of the Indian team who will not qualify for the IPL playoffs will leave for London immediately after the league stage of the IPL, which ends on May 21.
