Following a resounding series whitewash against visitors Sri Lanka, India's two star performers in the series, Virat Kohli and Mohammed Siraj, have moved up the table in the ICC ODI rankings. The former Indian skipper has moved up to fourth place in the rankings for batters, while Siraj charted his way to third place in the bowling rankings.
Virat Kohli, who smashed two centuries in the recently concluded ODI series, was named the player of the series for his prolific outings. His incredible run-scoring prowess saw him move four places in the ICC rankings, climbing up to the fourth spot with 750 rating points. The upcoming series could see him move up to second place as he is not too far behind the Proteas pair Rassie van der Dussen and Quinton de Kock, who are placed second and third, respectively.
Meanwhile, India's fast bowling sensation and their best 50-over bowler at the moment, Mohammed Siraj has claimed career-best rating points to climb up to the third place in the bowling rankings. His rise came in the aftermath of scintillating performances in the Sri Lanka series, where he grabbed nine scalps in just three games. He has been in rollicking form in ODIs since the start of last year, and he could quite possibly dethrone Trent Boult at the summit of the bowling charts in the upcoming series.
The Men in Blue will contest against the Kiwis in a three-match ODI series, commencing on the 18th of January in Hyderabad. Leading up to the series opener, India lost Shreyas Iyer to a back injury, ruling him out of the upcoming series.
Rajat Patidar has been named the replacement for the injured batting ace, who will be traveling to the NCA for further assessment. Meanwhile, T20 superstar Suryakumar Yadav is likely to take Iyer's place in the starting eleven for the series opener.
